U.S. stocks trade mostly up midday as tech-heavy Nasdaq posts sharp gain

The U.S. stock market was trading mostly higher midday Friday, with gains led by the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite.

The Nasdaq was up 213 points, or a sharp 1.2%, at almost 18,629.

The S&P 500 rose 30 points, or 0.5%, at around 5,840.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down nearly 65 points, or 0.2%, at around 42,310.

For the week, the Nasdaq was on track to gain 0.8%, while the S&P 500 was on pace to decline 0.4% and the Dow was heading for a bigger drop of 2.2%, according to FactSet data midday.
