The stock market was marching back toward session highs on Tuesday amid renewed hopes the U.S. can de-escalate its trade war with China.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1,012 points, or 2.7%. The S&P 500 was up 2.5%. The Nasdaq Composite was up 2.7%.

Stocks slid on Monday after President Donald Trump renewed his criticisms of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Markets were worried Trump would take his complaints about interest rates a step further and seek to undermine the central bank.
