U.S. stock futures were little changed early Friday, a day after major indexes all set new all-time highs as technology stocks surged following news that Nvidia would invest $5 billion in embattled chipmaker Intel.
Futures associated with the tech-heavy Nasdaq and the benchmark S&P 500 were up less than 0.1%, while those of the Dow Jones Industrial Average were near flat. All three indexes set both intraday and closing records Thursday.
Intel (INTC) shares, which soared nearly 23% to lead the S&P 500 and Nasdaq yesterday, were down 0.5% in premarket trading. Nvidia (NVDA) stock, which gained 3.5% and was one of the top performers in the Dow in the prior session, slipped 0.3% before the bell.
President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping were set to speak Friday and confirm a deal that would see TikTok avoid a U.S. ban. Shares of Oracle (ORCL), which reportedly would be part of a consortium to control the social media site’s U.S. operations, were up 0.4% in premarket trading.
In other corporate news, Apple (AAPL) shares rose 0.7% as its new iPhone 17 models went on sale globally; FedEx (FDX) stock popped 5% after the delivery giant reinstated its full-year outlook; and shares of Lennar (LEN) fell 3% after the homebuilder’s quarterly revenue and profit came up short of expectations amid sector struggles.
The 10-year Treasury yield, which affects borrowing costs on a variety of consumer and commercial loans, was at 4.13%, up from 4.11% at Thursday’s close.
Gold futures were up slightly at around $3,690 an ounce. West Texas Intermediate futures, the U.S. crude oil benchmark, were down 0.8% at roughly $63.05 a barrel. Bitcoin fell 0.8% to roughly $116,600. The U.S. dollar index, which tracks the value of the greenback against a basket of foreign currencies and hit its lowest level since early 2022 Wednesday, ticked higher to 97.57.
