Cryptocurrency scam: Two arrested in Karimganj

Silchar: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly operating an online scam from two locations in Cachar district.
The two persons allegedly used a fake cryptocurrency app to dupe a large number of residents in the Patharkandi area of Karimganj district. Police also seized Rs 50 lakh rupees, two mobile sets, one laptop, a four-wheeler and a few incriminating documents from their possession.
Ratabari Police, based on an FIR, formed a team on Friday and arrested Sultan Ahmed Choudhury and Abdul Quayum Choudhury from two places in Cachar district.
A police team is still interrogating both the accused as they believe that more people may be involved in the crime. Police also believe that the two arrested persons could have made a few crores from the racket.
While Sultan Ahmed Choudhury is a resident of Lebaporputa village under Katigorah Police Station, Abdul Quayum is from Sonai in Cachar. Both of them were using a fake cryptocurrency app to take money from the residents.
The raid was conducted after Jahan Uddin of Kanai Bazaar under Patharkandi police station filed an FIR at Ratabari Police Station.
