Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz today agreed to strengthen strategic ties, boost trade and promote a free and secure Indo-Pacific region. The two leaders had a bilateral meeting in New Delhi. This meeting comes as the West aims to counter China’s growing influence in the region. Scholz also asked India’s help in ending the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. India replied saying it stands ready to contribute to peace efforts. During the meeting, India and Germany signed a series of agreements to deepen cooperation in defense, information technology, clean energy, skill development, and artificial intelligence.
