COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple scams involving Bitcoin and cryptocurrency ATMs.

PCSO reports that the scammers are requesting payments in the form of Bitcoin by depositing money in cryptocurrency ATMs.

“Scammers may claim the payment is needed for overdue bills, missed court dates, or a family emergency,” PCSO said. “Scammers may also claim to be local law enforcement, public officials, or government agencies.”

Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.

The sheriff’s office urged that deputies will never ask for payment in Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency, nor will they request payment over the phone.

The public is urged to call PCSO for advice before sending money or revealing any personal information.
