More than 60% of the entire U.S. REIT industry, or 99 publicly-traded real estate investment trusts, raised dividends in 2022, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Self storage REITs reported the highest percentage of dividend increases, with 5 out of a total of 6 or 83.3% of the sector posting dividend hikes, the Market Intelligence data showed.
Industrial was the second, roughly 81.8% of the sector’s total, and retail came in third, over 80% of the segment.
Among Canadian REITs, a total of 16 companies announced dividend hikes during the year.
The residential sector posted the most number of dividend raises, followed by retail and then industrial, the data showed.
